Words that slipped away
Words you'd never say
Words I'll never hear
Are often too clear
In my mind
Those words stay behind
Whenever your not near
All through the night I hear...

A ruminating mind
Too much extra time
pounding in my ears
Ticking out my fears
In the night
Black everywhere in sight
'Till the morning light I hear...

Words that went with promises
I heard you said were true
But the words that went with what went on
Were they the words you used?
Were the words I heard,
Were they the words you used?

Liner notes

Performing on this track are Gary Tussing on Cello, Bill Pound is on Electric Guitar, Sean Stewart is on Drums and Kevin Stewart is on the acoustic guitar, bass pedals and vocals.

This is a recording by a local cable channel in front of a live audience at Applejacks in Jacksonville, Florida.  It was probably in 1980 or 1981. It's one of the best recordings of the "The Words" that I know of.  The audio quality isn't great but the groove is really all there.  This audio was recorded from a microphone positioned on the top of the single video camera that was located near the bar area...  There are two sets of material on this VHS tape and I'll try and post some other memorable moments in the near future.  There's a recording of "So Hard" on this tape where the audience singing along almost drowns out the band - and we were loutd... cool!

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.  There's also a negative side."                        --Hunter S. Thompson
