To Reach There

I know you came here for the ride
I got your number on the other side
You aint here 'cause you don't know
That this is not the place a pretty little girl's supposed to go.

I see you're not afraid of speed
You aint never had the need to be movin' slow
We're both here on our own dare
Don't ask me why we're runnin' there when all our fun's in runnin' where we'll never know.

We are here TO REACH THERE
People of the street, livin' on the road
The stories we repeat, the Language that she knows
We're cruisin' the streets and we're flyin' down the road

We aint here against our choice
We aint never lost our voice and we're still singin' strong
But we aint here because we care
We've simply got the time to dare
We aint got the time to share
We aint got the care to share

We are here TO REACH THERE
People of the street, livin' on the road
The stories we repeat, the Language that she knows
They're washing our feet and we're lightening up their load
Cruisin' the streets and we're flyin' down the road

We are here TO REACH THERE
My lady of the street, your man of the road
The stories I repeat and the Language that she knows
We're cruisin' the streets and we're flyin' down the road
TO REACH THERE!

The Video: This audio recording is from a session in 1980 or 81 in Tampa at Rich Macar's recording studio.  The video was shot in the summer of 1982 in New York City by our good friend Joe Puleo, who had just moved there from Tampa to work with ABC.  Joe finally sent us a  copy in October, 2006...  24 years since this has seen the light of day.

This song is one of Kevin Stewart's personal favorites.  Originally written some time in 1981 the MP3 track was recorded live at Applejacks in Jacksonville, Florida in October of 1988.  Performing on the track are Gary Tussing on Cello, Spencer Mallinson is playing the bass and Kevin Stewart programmed the drums and is on the acoustic guitar and vocals.

This gig was billed as "Kevin Stewart & Company".  Gary Tussing was joining Stewart and Mallinson as a one-time, sort of Stewart Tussing reunion gig.  Stewart Tussing had officially disbanded in 1985.  Other tracks on this site from this live recording are "Blue Suit Blues" and "Temptation"

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.  There's also a negative side."                        --Hunter S. Thompson
